Public Health Accreditation

  • In November 2016, the Montana state health department achieved a major milestone: national public health accreditation. The Montana state health department is one of over 300 accredited health departments in the nation and 89% of the US population is served by an accredited health department.
  • Public Health Accreditation assesses a health department’s delivery of the 10 Essential Public Health Services and measures health department performance against a set of nationally recognized, practice-focused, and evidence-based standards.
  • This year, the Montana state health department will apply for reaccreditation which focuses on continued improvement and advancement of population health. Learn more about the State Health Improvement Plan and other services available from the Montana state health department.
