Montana Designated Trauma Facilities

Health in the 406

Montana Designated Trauma Facilities

  • Trauma center designation is associated with better patient outcomes from traumatic injuries; Montana has 43 Designated Trauma Facilities.
  • The Montana Emergency Care System consists of first responders, emergency medical technicians, paramedics,9-1-1 dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators, nurses, physicians, and hospital staff.
  • Rural trauma care in Montana is complicated by geographic isolation, time between injury and discovery, extrication issues, distance to immediate healthcare and local health care resource availability. Understanding the medical capabilities of hospitals is important in providing initial care to injured patients.
