1) With the rising cases in Montana, we are anticipating some local agency WIC staff to be needed elsewhere in emergency response. If this is the case, please:
- Contact Kate and let her know how your clinic is operating, and if you need additional support
- Ensure staff salaries during the response time are paid by an alternate source of funding
- Know that you can enact the following flexibilities at your discretion:
- Issue 1 month of benefits to anyone in a current certification to allow more flexibility in scheduling education or mid-certification activities
- Extend current certification by 1 month to allow more time for scheduling recertification (use VOC functionality)
2) We are working on a solution to ensure text messages for appointments remain relevant across the state. As some clinics are reopening, and others are not, or are in flux, the current text may not be accurate for all. Until this is updated, please reach out to your scheduled appointments who are required to come in and verify that it is an in-person appointment. To the extent possible we do encourage remote services during this time.
3) In terms of COVID legislation on WIC:
- The $600/week addition to unemployment benefits (currently counted as income for WIC purposes) is due to expire July 31st, unless Congress extends it, we may see additional interest in WIC applicants as people become eligible at that time.
- The waiver authority currently granted to WIC nationally is due to expire September 30th, we will continue to provide updates if Congress extends that into the next fiscal year. It is safest to contemplate transition back to ‘normal’ in October until we hear more.
3) Continue to keep us posted on staffing and funding (i.e. if you will have unspent funds) changes locally.
4) Lastly, we will continue to do outreach to potentially eligible families across the State via text and social media. We are also happy to assist your efforts locally if we can (please contact Jordan).
Thank you all for your hard work during this challenging time. We appreciate you all so much, and we know our WIC families do too!

The State Office is making decisions about virtually hosting New Employee Training September 15th-17th. Given the current circumstances, we need to gauge interest and ability to attend the event. Before we finalize details we want to see if we will have enough people attending to host this training. Please complete the registration form and submit to Lacy via email (as we are all working remotely) and send her any questions. |

July is a Time Study month. Please remember to complete your trackers and submit it to the person who completes your agency’s expenditure report. If you have any questions, please reach out to Susan Wensel. |
