Aerial Imagery for MDT Bentley Projects - Advised Changes
Designers are advised to disconnect Web Mapping Service (WMS) connections and attach TIF files to display aerial imagery for plans production processes on remaining MDT Bentley projects. Web Mapping Service (WMS) connections used with Bentley MicroStation / Power Geopak v8i SS10 projects have become increasingly unstable in MDT plans production processes. These services are hosted by the Montana State Library and commonly used for displaying U.S. Farm Services Agency National Agricultural Imagery Program (NAIP) aerial imagery on MDT projects.
How do I know if I am using WMS connections?
The Bentley MicroStation/Geopak with OpenRoads Technology Enhanced Workspace is delivered with a "MDT MAPS" tool accessed from the "MDT Apps" pull down. This tool attaches a base map named "MDT_Raster_Image_Basemap.dgn" as a reference file. This reference file utilizes WMS connections that can be observed in the Raster Manager as attached files with an ".xwms" extension, e.g. MSDI_NAIP_2021.xwms. MDT ESS CADD is unable to guarantee stability and quality of aerial imagery using these connections. "MDT MAPS" will remain in the MDT Enhanced Workspace along with the supporting XWMS files for use during design.
How do I find and attach TIF imagery files?
TIF files may be ordered from the Montana State Library. The Montana State Library has been incredibly responsive to requests. The support guide "NAIP TIF Imagery for Bentley Projects" contains information for preparing a request and attaching the TIF files once received. Consider coordinating with other functional areas to avoid multiple copies of the same TIF files being requested and ultimately uploaded to MDT's Project Content Management System (PCMS).
Submit a request (linked below) if you have any questions, issues, or would like to request future state kit development. Internal MDT users may submit a case or make a request from the MDT Service Desk.
