Montana FWP finds record number of invasive mussels this season
Watercraft inspectors in Montana have intercepted a record number of boats carrying invasive mussels this season.
Since mid-March, inspectors have stopped 20 mussel infested boats at check stations in Anaconda, Dillon, Flowing Wells, Hardin, Nashua and most recently Wibaux.

Confirmed sighting of an Asian giant hornet in Washington. Washington State Department of Agriculture
In May the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) reported the first confirmed sighting of an Asian giant hornet in Washington this year.

NISC crosscut budget report
Annual invasive species crosscut budget analyses have been compiled by the National Invasive Species Council to inform a coordinated multi-departmental approach to meeting high-priority invasive species activities. The NISC Crosscut Budgets reflect differences in invasive species budget allocations across the NISC Member Departments/Agencies and over time, as well as increasing interest in federal spending from Congress and non-federal stakeholders. The 2020 report was cleared and distributed to NISC Principals and Senior Advisers on July 8, 2020. The document is available here.

FWP looking for help reporting snapping turtles in western Montana
In 2018, FWP received a report of a snapping turtle in a backwater at Milltown State Park just east of Missoula, but so far biologists have been unable to locate this animal again. Snapping turtles likely end up in waterways in western Montana through illegal releases of animals kept as pets...read more
