29 by 29 Strategic Plan
As Mississippi continues to show tremendous business growth, my office remains committed to tackling occupational licensing reform through our Tackle the Tape initiative. Over the past two years, we've witnessed significant progress and hope to cut even more burdensome regulations through our new 29 by 29 strategic plan. The goal is to review every regulation for all 29 occupational licensing boards and commissions by the year 2029.
Eight nonprofits and academic organizations will assist us with the review process. We will also receive input from industry leaders and experts, as well as legislative leaders. As we determine a regulation does not comply with the state policy, I will motion to consider changes or the entire removal of regulations to the Occupational Licensing Review Commission (OLRC), of which I am a member.

I was pleased to share Tackle the Tape successes and details of our strategic plan during an in-depth interview with the Mississippi Center for Public Policy (MCPP). We discussed the ways in which excessive regulations overshadow our economy and our team's effort to change Mississippi's standing as one of the most regulated states in the south.

Conservation Task Force
In government, the best results are often achieved through teamwork, and the case is no different when it comes to protecting Mississippi's wildlife and natural resources. Legislative leaders joined our 30+ member Conservation Task Force during January's meeting at the Capitol to discuss critical issues and conservation goals for each region of the state.
In response to a survey given by our office, roughly 83% of members reported a lack of resources needed to address conservation issues on private land as a chief impediment to accomplishing conservation goals. The survey also showed about 92% of members would prioritize leveraging of funds in a conservation action plan. I discussed these issues and the next steps for the task force during my latest interview with Ricky Matthews on SuperTalk Outdoors. Watch the full interview to learn more about how our team is working on a plan to catapult our state as a leader in the conservation space.

NASS John Lewis Youth Leadership Award
This year I am honored to begin a new tradition by awarding Greene County's Tyler Packer with the first John Lewis Youth Leadership Award created by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS). Tyler was nominated for his outstanding leadership and civic-mindedness while serving as Mississippi State University's student body president. It was an honor to present the newly-created award to such a deserving young leader with a passion for bettering the state and those around him.
