It's That Time of the Year

While spring is in the air, two very important items are at the forefront of many Minneapolitans' minds:

  • You’re receiving your property value assessment for 2016.
  • You’re filing your taxes for 2014.

These two items continue to shape a lot of the conversations I have with constituents. Some of the toughest conversations are with seniors struggling to remain in their homes because of high property taxes. I’m equally saddened when I find middle-class families facing the decision to move a couple blocks away to Edina or Richfield, where they may pay less in property taxes for similar services. While I will continue to work with my partners at the city, county and state level to help out these folks, I’ve also learned that many do not know about the programs already available. Considering that there are some important deadlines in the coming weeks, I thought I’d send a quick note to share some info about these programs.
