The Minneapolis Public Works Department is reconstructing 1st Ave. S from Grant St. to Franklin Ave.
This stretch is the final connection from Lake Street into downtown with a full corridor reconstruction of 1st ave south from Franklin to E Grant. While the City is replacing the old infrastructure, significant investment in our transportation network will occur including a protected bikeway and pedestrian safety improvements. In addition, we are adding more green space along the corridor. Once completed in 2026 the new corridor from Lake Street into Downtown will be completed.
- CenterPoint Energy has completed their work within 1st Ave S Corridor between Grant and Franklin with some minor restoration work ongoing.
- Hennepin County's Project at Eastbound of Franklin Ave. is underway. More information about this project can be found on the Hennepin County project page.

Concrete and Bituminous Removal at 16th St. Intersection
Concrete Removal South of E 16th St
Deep sanitary sewer installation
Construction for the project will begin on April 27, 2026.
- North of I‑94 Bridge
Contractor is in progress with deep sanitary installation. You may notice increased activity in the area as materials and equipment are delivered and crews prepare the work zone.
- South of I‑94 Bridge
Contractor will be taking over traffic control management and will be in the area to stage their equipment and materials.
- Project detours are currently in effect.
- During this time, please expect:
- Detour routes and temporary traffic changes
- Movement of large construction equipment
- Ongoing material deliveries
- Regular contractor presence in the area
