April 8, 2026 (MINNEAPOLIS) – Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced that four juveniles, all known to police, were arrested in connection with two aggravated robberies that occurred minutes apart Tuesday evening.
On April 7, 2026, at approximately 5:45 p.m., a man parked his vehicle and was walking toward a business on the 2600 block of Park Avenue when he was approached by four juveniles. The group assaulted him in an apparent attempted carjacking. The victim attempted to flee toward the business but was followed by one of the juveniles, who was armed with a gun. The armed suspect robbed the man of his wallet before all four fled the scene. The victim was not injured. (Incident 26-087565)
Moments later, less than a block away, a woman in her 60s and a man in his 50s were sitting in a vehicle on the 600 block of 27th Steet E when they were approached by at least four individuals dressed in black. One of the suspects, armed with a gun, opened the driver’s side door and ordered the woman out of the vehicle. Both occupants exited, and the suspects fled in the vehicle, taking the woman’s purse and phone. (Incident 26-087564)
Officers were alerted throughout the evening as the carjacked vehicle was tracked using license plate readers. At approximately 9:30 p.m., an MPD officer located the vehicle in a parking lot near 36th Avenue N and Penn Avenue N. While waiting for additional officers, the vehicle left the lot. (Incident 26-087777)
MPD officers attempted a traffic stop near 36th Avenue N and Oliver Avenue N, but the vehicle fled. Officers pursued, and the vehicle ultimately crashed into another occupied vehicle at Humboldt Avenue N and Lowry Avenue N.
The 15-year-old driver fled on foot. Officers observed him discard a firearm, which was recovered. With assistance from Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Air Support and MPD K-9, the suspect was located on the 3100 block of James Avenue N. He was evaluated at Hennepin Healthcare before being booked into the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center for Aggravated Robbery, Felony Fleeing, and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
Three additional juveniles, ages 15, 16, and 17, were arrested at the crash scene and transported to North Memorial Health. The 15- and 17-year-olds were later booked into the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center for aggravated robbery. The 16-year-old remained at the hospital for treatment of apparent non-life-threatening injuries likely sustained in the crash.
The driver of the struck vehicle was evaluated at the scene and did not require transport to a hospital.
Each of the juveniles has had prior contact with law enforcement. The 15-year-old driver has been arrested multiple times for offenses including auto theft and assault with a dangerous weapon. The 16-year-old has prior arrests for auto theft and aggravated robbery, and the 17-year-old has prior arrests for auto theft and possession of stolen property.
“We continue to see a small number of juveniles who remain on a path where they are a danger to themselves as well as the community,” said Chief O’Hara. “I am grateful for the excellent work of our officers and for the help from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office in making these swift arrests.”
