The Minneapolis Public Works Department is reconstructing 1st Ave. S from Grant St. to Franklin Ave.
This stretch is the final connection from Lake Street into downtown with a full corridor reconstruction of 1st ave south from Franklin to E Grant. While the City is replacing the old infrastructure, significant investment in our transportation network will occur including a protected bikeway and pedestrian safety improvements. In addition, we are adding more green space along the corridor. Once completed in 2026 the new corridor from Lake Street into Downtown will be completed.

The Roadway Contractor will begin work on this project in early May; however, in advance of the roadway work beginning, CenterPoint Energy is replacing some of their gas mains and service connections starting March 30, 2026
