News from Ward 8

News from Council Member Soren Stevenson

Dear Neighbors,

The federally sponsored terror in our community continues, this time in Whittier with another killing of a neighbor by ICE. The killing of Alex Pretti, a Ward 8 neighbor, has left us completely horrified and heartbroken. I am with you in your grief, anger, and bewilderment. When will this madness end? Alex Pretti was observing the action of federal agents, and looking out for his neighbors. In response, they murdered him in broad daylight. His killing was the third shooting by ICE in as many weeks. This has to stop!

My thoughts are with his family, loved ones, and with you as we are grieving another loss at the hands of the federal government. Every single agent must be held accountable for their actions. ICE needs to leave our city and state, and then be abolished completely. America has no use for secret police reporting to the president.

I am here with you, neighbors. Please do not hesitate to reach out if there is anything my team and I can do. I will continue fighting against our city’s occupation by federal immigration enforcement agents, and to support our communities.

During the writing of this message I heard whistles blowing in my neighborhood as ICE was spotted again. Keep up the fight! You are needed now more than ever. Your city and your neighbors need your time, talent, and treasure. We can protect each other, and simply by trying, we will survive this invasion better than if we give in. Keep going, keep meeting your neighbors, keep doing what you can to support each other. Do it today, tomorrow, and every day until ICE leaves our community. We are in this together.

Thank you and solidarity,
Soren Stevenson
