| Today, our community stands in shock and sorrow once again. Yet another shooting involving federal immigration agents has shaken Minneapolis, marking the third such incident in just a few weeks.
What we are living through is not safety. Families are being harassed in their homes and on our streets. Residents are hiding in fear. Schools have closed or shifted to remote learning amid this crisis schools that should be places of growth and joy, not fear and uncertainty.
Our local police, already doing their best to protect and serve have been overwhelmed by federal operations that have not only failed to make our neighborhoods safer but have eroded trust and community peace. Families who walk to school, shop at local stores, or simply drive home should not have to wonder whether a federal agent might confront them at any moment.
Small businesses are shuttered, economic activity has slowed sharply, and workers are staying home because they fear for their safety. This isn’t hypothetical, it’s the reality unfolding across Minneapolis as protests, closures, and the strain of heightened enforcement reverberate through daily life.
Let me be clear: ICE must leave Minnesota. Now. It is time to end enforcement operations that bring violence instead of justice, fear instead of protection. Our city deserves real safety! Safety built through community trust, accountable local law enforcement, and humane policy that honors the dignity of every human being.
We will not remain silent while our kids are afraid, our streets are militarized, and families are torn apart. We will continue to demand transparency, accountability, and policies that protect every person who calls this place home, whether they were born here or are building a life here.
To the grieving, the frightened, the parents keeping watch over sleeping children: I see you. I stand with you. We will continue to work together to ensure Minneapolis is a place of compassion, decency, and genuine safety for all.
