News from Council Member Pearll Warren

Good afternoon, Neighbors of Ward 5,

Over the past several days, my office has sent multiple updates to help residents navigate increased federal immigration enforcement activity including Know Your Rights resources, guidance for staying safe, and where to find verified City information. If you missed any of those messages, you can review and sign up for future Ward 5 updates at Newsletters

Immigration enforcement updates and Know Your Rights

The city continues to share verified information and resources for residents and businesses especially guidance on staying calm, safe, and informed. Please use the City’s resource pages below for Know Your Rights materials, updates, and referrals to legal and community support:

Ensuring that North Minneapolis Ward 5 has what we need to thrive is my top priority, so I would like to uplift some of the issues that have been brought to my attention.  We have several residents who are concerned about the snow and ice plowing and removal. Please reach out to the Ward Office @ 612-673-2205 and provide an exact location or intersection so that we can help with the safety, walkability and livability in the Ward.

Winter weather reminders: snow emergencies, towing, and pedestrian safety

We have also shared critical winter operations updates, especially during snow emergencies. If your vehicle is tagged or towed, here are the official City resources to help you respond quickly: phone 612-348-SNOW (7669) to avoid that TOW

  • Snow emergency parking rules and map
  • Winter weather & snow emergency guidance
  • Minneapolis Impound Lot information

As conditions continue, I want to reiterate safe sidewalks and walkways are a big part of public safety. Please contact my office with concern around removal and plowing issues. Just a friendly reminder

  • Snowplows can only remove snow in the areas they can get to Follow the snow emergency route parking plans to ensure proper removal for all
  • If you see sidewalks that remain un-shoveled or dangerously icy after the required window, you can report it to the City:
  • Report sidewalk snow and ice

Extreme cold: warming options and keeping pets inside-

During extreme cold snaps, resources are available for residents who need a warm place to go. The City also directs residents to the Hennepin Shelter Hotline (612-204-8200) for severe-cold warming options.  Remember your rights and responsibilities during the cold weather rule months Oct 1 through April 30th.  For more information visit Cold Weather Rule or Energy Assistance for more support with utility billing.

And a reminder from Minneapolis Animal Care & Control: Pets get cold, too, bring them indoors.

Rental Assistance is available for those who qualify - if you are having issues paying your rent or need help with rental assistance, please contact Prevent Eviction

Big Gratitude for Ward 5’s essential workers and community care.

I also want to uplift and recognize the Ward 5 essential workers and community builders who keep showing up, those staffing food shelves, coordinating meal delivery, supporting elders, offering childcare support, and holding the line for neighbors during challenging days.

Finally, I want to name something I believe deeply: the greatest resistance to fear is continuing to show up. Show up for work. Show up for school. Show up for worship. Show up for each other, like Ward 5 has done all along.

In service,

Council Member Pearll Warren Minneapolis City Council, Ward 5
