Dear Ward 3 Neighbors,
I reach out to you today with a very heavy heart. We are all deeply saddened by the reckless actions of Federal Agents operating in our community. Our own Police Chief and others in MPD predicted that it was just a matter of time before a tragedy like this would occur with ICE and other federal agencies operating throughout the metro.
Please know that the City of Minneapolis is working diligently to address the current situation and is in close and constant contact with County, State and other local jurisdictions to ensure the public safety of all residents and visitors in our city.
Governor Walz has activated the National Guard and they are prepared to deploy if necessary. With the number of federal agents in our region outnumbering local law enforcement personnel, it is imperative that we and our partners have a unified response and approach as we continue to maneuver the unprecedented actions of the federal administration.
The City is urging community members not to take actions that could be used to justify further federal escalation or an expanded militarized response. We support the right to free speech and protesting but ask that everyone remain mindful of their own actions to protect themselves and the community at large.
Feel free to check out additional information and resources through the following links, and we will continue to update you as we know more.
As always, Henry, Patrick, and I are here to serve you. We can be reached at ward3@minneapolismn.gov. Please report all issues to 311 before contacting us so there is a paper trail and staff are already aware of the issue when we speak with them. You can contact 311 by simply dialing 311, email them at Minneapolis311@minneapolismn.gov or by submitting a 311 Contact Form.
Your neighbor,
Michael
