Police Investigating After Man Killed in Overnight Shooting

December 23, 2025 (MINNEAPOLIS)–Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced that police are investigating an overnight shooting that left one man dead.

At approximately 2:30am on December 23, 2025, Fourth Precinct Officers responded to a shooting inside a residence on the 1600 block of Thomas Avenue North. Officers arrived and found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately provided medical aid including CPR. The man was transported by EMS to North Memorial Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.

Preliminary information indicates that a verbal argument escalated to gunfire. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.

Investigators are working to determine the sequence of events that led to this violence.

Minneapolis Forensic Scientists responded to process the scene.

A 17-year-old has been arrested.  The MPD is actively investigating connections between the arrestee and other violent crimes in the city this year.

“Another family has forever been impacted by senseless violence,” said Chief O’Hara. “Settling disputes with a firearm is completely unacceptable, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure justice in this case.  Every available tool in the juvenile justice system must be used to protect young people who pose a danger to themselves as well as the community.”

Case Number: 25-365460
