MPD Shares Tragic News About a Recruit Officer

December 4, 2025 (MINNEAPOLIS) – With a heavy heart, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara shared that Minneapolis Recruit Officer Amara Kanneh died unexpectedly while off duty on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025. 

 Recruit Officer Kanneh was hired by the MPD on October 6th, 2025, and was assigned to the Minneapolis Police Academy while undergoing preservice training. 

 “My heart goes out to Recruit Officer Kanneh’s family, and I am grateful they shared their loved one with us,” said Chief O’Hara. "Recruit Officer Kanneh was a kind, respectful, generous person who was excited to join the MPD ranks.  He will forever be remembered as a valued member of our MPD family.” 

 MPD’s Health and Wellness Unit as well as professional therapists are providing care and support to all recruit officers and department members.

May Recruit Officer Kennah rest in peace.
