November 11, 2025 (MINNEAPOLIS) – Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced the arrests of two juveniles connected to a carjacking crime spree and two adults involved in a separate carjacking and pursuit.
“These incidents that occurred yesterday and early this morning are all disturbing,” said Chief O’Hara. “But they also demonstrate the effectiveness, coordinated efforts, and the commitment of the police officers who responded urgently to apprehend these violent offenders.”
Between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., November 10th, officers from the First, Fourth, and Fifth Precincts responded to a series of incidents believed to be connected that involved three stolen vehicles: a red Subaru Outback, a grey Subaru Legacy, and a white Volkswagen Atlas.
Chronology of Events – November 10, 2025 – Crime Spree with arrest of two juveniles
2:00 p.m. — Vehicle Theft (25-326312) A red Subaru Outback (WI license ARG1396) was stolen from outside 1600 1st Avenue South.
- The vehicle owner believes the key fob may have been left inside the vehicle.
3:56 p.m. — Suspicious Vehicle (25-326427) Witnesses reported a red Subaru hatchback driving recklessly near 1801 James Avenue North, close to a school.
- The vehicle’s license plate was unknown.
- Witnesses observed juveniles wearing medical masks inside the vehicle.
5:15 p.m. — Attempted Carjacking / Assault (25-326520 / 25-326529) Officers responded to a disturbance near 635 Elwood Avenue North.
- A woman reported that while placing her daughter into a car seat, a red Subaru Outback stopped in front of her vehicle.
- A male suspect exited the Subaru, entered her driver’s seat, and began to drive away.
- The victim shielded her daughter in the backseat as the suspect punched her in the head and face.
- The suspect drove from a parking lot on the 700 block of Humboldt Avenue North and eventually jumped from the moving vehicle, and fled.
- The victim’s vehicle came to rest against a curb near 7th Avenue North and Humboldt Avenue.
6:15 p.m. — Attempted Theft from Vehicle (25-326614) A woman reported that as she returned to her car on the 1600 block of Hennepin Avenue, two males in a red Subaru Outback approached.
- The suspects began rummaging through her vehicle as she ran inside to lock the doors.
- The suspects fled in the Subaru.
6:31 p.m. — Carjacking of Gray Subaru Legacy (25-326612) Officers were dispatched to 1605 Hennepin Avenue.
- The victim was seated in his 2015 gray Subaru Legacy (MN PSL262) when a male suspect opened his driver’s door and ordered him out.
- At least two suspects claimed to have a gun, though none was seen.
- The suspects arrived in a red Subaru Outback and fled in both vehicles.
- The stolen Legacy was later recovered in the 5th Precinct (25-326688).
7:57 p.m. — Carjacking of Council Member Osman (25-326685) Minneapolis City Council Member Jamal Osman was carjacked at Lake Street and Portland Avenue.
- The suspects arrived in a blue-gray Subaru, parked in front of Osman’s white Volkswagen Atlas (MN SJK685).
- Two male suspects approached Osman; one threatened him with mace, and the other implied he had a firearm.
- The suspects stole Osman’s Atlas and fled the area in both the Volkswagen Atlas and the gray Subaru Legacy.
8:00 p.m. — Pursuit and Arrests (25-326688) 5th Precinct officers spotted both the Subaru Legacy and Volkswagen Atlas traveling westbound on Lake Street near Pillsbury Avenue.
- Both vehicles fled and struck multiple uninvolved vehicles.
- Two juvenile males, ages 15 and 16, fled on foot and were apprehended after a short pursuit.
- A replica firearm was recovered at the scene.
- The Subaru Legacy was recovered; the Volkswagen Atlas fled the scene and was later found unoccupied.
10:30 p.m. — Recovery of Stolen Volkswagen Atlas (25-326774) The white Volkswagen Atlas (MN SJK685) stolen from Council Member Osman was recovered unoccupied near 500 block Lyndale Place.
Chronology of Events – November 10–11, 2025 – Separate carjacking and pursuit
6:07 a.m. — Armed Carjacking (25-326009) Officers responded to a report of a carjacking at a gas station located at 2606 Penn Avenue North.
- The victim reported that he was carjacked at gunpoint by multiple suspects.
- The suspects arrived in a white Ford pickup truck.
- The victim’s 2015 Kia Forte (MN license TEH513) was stolen.
- The suspects fled the scene in both the stolen Forte and the white Ford pickup.
2:40 a.m. (Next Day) — Vehicle Located and Pursuit (25-326901) Using camera technology and license plate readers (LPR), officers tracked the stolen Forte.
- At approximately 2:40 a.m. on November 11, 4th Precinct officers located the Forte traveling on West Broadway near West River Road and initiated a pursuit.
- At approximately 2:43 a.m., the suspect vehicle attempted to drive through Willard Park (16th Ave N and Queen Ave N) but crashed.
- The passenger was taken into custody at the crash scene.
- The driver fled on foot. A perimeter was established, and an MPD K9 track led to the driver being located and arrested near 17th Ave N and Queen Ave N.
- Both suspects were booked into the Hennepin County Jail.
“Whether it is juveniles engaged in dangerous and reckless acts or adults committing armed carjackings, these violent crimes have serious impacts on our residents,” said Chief O’Hara. “While the overall crime in Minneapolis has declined in recent years, we continue to see a troubling number of violent incidents and in particular, violence that involves juveniles. Because of the actions of our officers, four violent offenders have been taken into custody. We are thankful that no one was seriously injured.”
In reference to the carjacking involving Council Member Osman, Mayor Frey stated, “I spoke with Council Member Osman last night to offer my support, and I’m grateful he’s okay. While crime may be trending down, incidents like this are a reminder that we still have a lot of work to do to improve public safety. I look forward to working with Council Member Osman toward that end.”
