Shrimp recalled over health concerns

Recalled shrimp products - October 2025

Southwind Foods, LLC is voluntarily recalling a limited quantity of Frozen Shrimp, due to possible radionuclide (Cesium-137) contamination.

Recalled products were distributed between June 24 – Sept. 16, 2025

Brand names include:

  • Sand Bar
  • Arctic Shores
  • Best Yet
  • Great American
  • First Street

Cesium-137 (Cs-136) manmade radioisotope. Repeated, longer-term low dose exposure (e.g., through consumption of contaminated food or water over time) is an elevated risk of cancer.

Sprout Organics expands recall

Sprout Organics is expanding its Sept. 16, 2025 recall of sweet potato apple and spinach pouches due to potentially elevated lead levels, to include additional lots. 

 The following Sprout Organics® Sweet Potato Apple and Spinach 3.5 oz pouch are being recalled:

  • Best By: Oct292025 (Lot Code - 4212)
  • Best By: Oct302025 (Lot Code - 4213)
  • Best By: Dec042025 (Lot Code - 4282)
  • Best By: Feb042026 (Lot Code - 4310)

Consuming lead, even in small amounts can increase blood lead levels. This can affect learning and development or cause other long-term health problems, especially in children.

Wise Wife brand cinnamon recalled

SLR Food Distribution of Hicksville, NY is recalling Wise Wife brand cinnamon, because it has the potential to be contaminated with elevated levels of lead. 

The products being recalled is Wise Wife brand cinnamon:

  • 1.76oz (50g) clear plastic jar with a black lid.
    • UPC 0 688474 302853 (printed on the back label)

Public health alert issued for Ready-To-Eat Meal

The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a public health alert issued for Ready-To-Eat meals containing pasta due to possible Listeria contamination.

The CDC and FDA are investigating an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes linked to ingredients used in these meals. 

The following product is being recalled:

Cantaloupe recalled due to Listeria concern

Wholesale Produce Supply of Minneapolis, Minnesota is recalling fresh cut/processed cantaloupe, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Fresh cut cantaloupe was sold in traditional plastic clamshell containers in both cantaloupe-only products, as well as containers that include other fresh cut-fruits.

The following products are being recalled:

  • Harvest Cuts brand cut fruit plastic clamshell.
    • Cantaloupe only
    • Mixed fruit
  • Fresh & Finest brand cut fruit plastic clamshell
    • Cantaloupe only
    • Mixed fruit

Hillshire Brands Company issues recall

State Fair corn dog package

The Hillshire Brands Company is recalling approximately 58,000,000 pounds of corn dog and sausage on a stick product that may be contaminated with additional material, specifically pieces of wood embedded in the batter.

Georgia Nut Company issues recall due to metal concerns

Tru Fru, LLC announced that its third-party manufacturer, Georgia Nut Company (GNC) issued a voluntary recall of specific varieties of Tru Fru Freeze Dried products due to the potential presence of metal in the product.

The following product is being recalled:

  • Freeze Dried Strawberries in Dark & White Chocolate

  • Freeze Dried Strawberries & Creme 

Tru Fru, LLC will work with retailers to remove recalled products from store shelves. If consumers believe they have purchased a recalled item, they should dispose of the product and not consume it.

Reporting customer illness complaints

If a customer complains of diarrhea or vomiting after eating at your restaurant, you must:

  1. Write down the customer's name and contact information
  2. Call the Minnesota Department of Health Foodborne Illness Hotline at 1-877-FOOD-ILL (1-877-366-3455)
  3. Suggest that your customer may also contact the MDH hotline, if they wish to do so.

Food businesses must use a consumer advisory whenever raw or undercooked animal food is on the menu.

Your consumer advisory must include a disclosure and a reminder. You can display the advisory on 

  • Menus including online menus
  • Deli cases 
  • Label statements
  • Table tents
  • Brochures
  • Other effective ways
