A Woman Has Died Days After a Mass Shooting

September 19, 2025 (MINNEAPOLIS) – Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced that one of the women shot on September 15th has died.

MPD was informed that Jacinda Oakgrove, age 30, died at the hospital on September 18, 2025.

On September 15th, 2025, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired near S 28th Avenue and E Lake St.  

An officer working off duty at the Target store nearby was approached by people running into the Target store reporting gunfire. 

That officer exited the store and heard gunfire coming from the area of the encampment that is located just north of E Lake Street on S 28th Avenue.

Officers arrived and worked quickly to secure a chaotic scene at the encampment.

7 people were injured by gunfire at this incident.  3 women and 1 man were transported from the scene to Hennepin Healthcare.  1 man walked into Children’s Hospital and was later transported to Hennepin Healthcare.  1 woman walked into Abbott Northwestern Hospital.  1 man arrived later at Regions Hospital.

Investigators are working to determine the sequence of events that led up to the shooting.

Evidence of gunfire was recovered throughout the encampment. 

It is unknow if this shooting is related to the shooting that injured 5 people near Lake Street and Stevens Avenue earlier on 9/15/2025. 

One man was arrested on September 18th, 2025, for potential aiding and abetting after the fact.  He has since been released pending any formal complaint.
