Overnight Shooting Leaves One Man Dead, MPD Investigating

July 25, 2025 (MINNEAPOLIS) – Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced that police are investigating a shooting that occurred overnight where one man was killed. 

At approximately 2:33 a.m., Fifth Precinct officers responded to a shooting near Franklin Av/Lyndale Av S. Upon arrival, officers located a man in his 30s suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began performing CPR. He was transported by EMS to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital, where he later died. 

Preliminary information indicates the victim was speaking with a male inside of a vehicle. The man inside the vehicle got out and fired shots toward the victim, striking him. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. 

MPD is actively investigating the circumstances around the incident. 

“We as a community cannot accept this violence and tragedy as normal,” said Chief O’Hara. “Investigators are working diligently to follow up on leads and learn what led up to this tragic shooting. If anyone has any information about this tragedy, please provide it to our investigators.” 

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s name along with the official cause and manner of death. 

Officers secured the scene and canvassed the area. 

Minneapolis Forensic Scientists responded to process the scene. 

No arrests have been made.
