July 6, 2025 (MINNEAPOLIS) – Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced that one man is dead and another is in custody following a stabbing Sunday afternoon.
At approximately 5:05 p.m., Third Precinct officers responded to a report of a stabbing on the 4900 block of Hiawatha Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from life-threatening stab wounds. He was transported by EMS to Hennepin Healthcare, where he died.
Preliminary information indicates a verbal altercation between two men inside a residence escalated into violence. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
Officers quickly established a perimeter and began searching the area. A short time later, they located the second man in the 5300 block of 46th Avenue South. He was taken into custody without incident.
“My thoughts are with the victim and those close to him as their lives have been forever changed,” said Chief O’Hara. “I am grateful to the officers who acted swiftly to secure the scene and locate the suspect. Our investigators will continue working to piece together the events that led to this senseless act of violence and pursue justice for the victim.”
Minneapolis forensic scientists responded to process the scene.
Investigators continue to determine the sequence of events that led to the stabbing.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the deceased man’s identity, as well as the official cause and manner of death.
