Mayor Jacob Frey has launched a public online dashboard that provides up-to-date insights into the City’s progress on key priorities. Developed in collaboration with the Office of Performance Management and Innovation, the Mayoral Dashboard underscores Minneapolis’ commitment to data-driven decision making, transparency, and efficient use of public resources.
“People have a right to see how their government is working for them, and this dashboard puts that information front and center,” said Mayor Jacob Frey. “By tying our work to measurable goals, we deliver services that are both effective and efficient. Sharing the data that drives our decision making lets residents see the work we’re doing, and it holds us to the high standards they deserve. This is about building trust and showing progress in real, tangible ways.”
The dashboard’s initial focus is on one of the City’s core commitments to residents: community safety. It brings together data from across the Office of Community Safety to highlight how the City is taking coordinated, data-informed action to reduce harm and build safer neighborhoods.
Key metrics include:
-
Violent crime: Tracks the number of violent crimes reported each month, with a comparison to previous years and a map displaying where violent crime was reported
-
Public safety survey: Tracks the percentage of residents feeling safer this year compared to last year, with data broken down by precinct along with race and ethnicity
-
Response times: Tracks the time it takes police or fire to respond to an urgent call, from the moment a 911 dispatcher receives the call until a first responder arrives at the scene—the goal for police is 11 minutes, and the goal for fire is five minutes
New dashboard pages will launch monthly, each tied to a mayoral priority. Upcoming topics include workforce recruitment and retention, homelessness response, economic recovery, climate action, and opioid response.

It's been another great year for Stable Homes Stable Schools! Since launching in 2019, the program has helped more than 6,200 kids and 2,200 families thrive through short- and long-term housing support. The impact is real—and visible in the smiling faces of the families we serve.
Mayor Frey is proud to support the program with a $2.2 million ongoing investment through his annual budget.
A huge thanks to the City of Minneapolis, MPHA, Minneapolis Public Schools, the Pohlad Foundation, and all our partners for another successful school year supporting stable housing for students and their families!
2023 Taste of Minnesota kick off
Mayor Frey is excited to welcome the Taste of Minnesota back to downtown Minneapolis for its third year in a row. After returning in 2023, this celebration has quickly become a summer favorite—offering unbeatable food, live music, and incredible energy in the heart of downtown.
The popular event will be back on Nicollet Mall on July 5 and 6 with more food, music, and fun for the whole family. Highlights include:
- Dozens of local food trucks
- Live music across multiple stages
- Several themed zones, from jazz to artists' markets
- Free Metro Transit rides all weekend
Last year’s event drew over 120,000 people—don’t miss your chance to be part of this growing tradition!
Mayor Frey recently stopped by Uptown to visit local businesses like Moona Moona, Twin Cities Skaters, Amazing Thailand, and Yummy Bites—each one helping make Uptown a destination people want to visit.
To help continue the revitalization of the area-- the City is making some major investments. As shared in Mayor Frey's 2025 State of the City Address, the City has launched a new corridor-specific strategy for West Lake Street, developed in partnership with local businesses, artists, and residents. The mission: make the area safer, more vibrant, and better for small business success.
We’re already seeing the results:
- Public art installations across Uptown
- Community events, including Open Streets in September
- Dance education returning to every public elementary school and Park and Rec building—including in Uptown
Through the City’s Ownership and Opportunity Fund, more than 25 entrepreneurs—some in Uptown—have received support to purchase their buildings, building long-term wealth.
Uptown is also benefiting from Cultural Districts funding and the Lake Street Lift initiative, which is channeling $8 million in state and philanthropic support into events, marketing, and business assistance along the corridor.
"Small businesses like Moona Moona, Twin Cities Skaters, Amazing Thailand, and Yummy Bites make Uptown a destination people keep coming back to. Thanks for having me, and thanks for making sure Uptown stays cool," said Mayor Frey on social media.
Under the leadership of City Financial Officer Dushani Dye, the City of Minneapolis finance team has received national honors from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA)—the leading organization of municipal finance professionals—for Excellence in Financial Reporting.
The City also received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, which recognizes governments that meet the highest standards in budgeting. These standards evolve annually, and the GFOA commended the City’s finance team for its ability to adapt and continuously improve the City’s budget systems.
The award, described by the GFOA as “the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting,” has been awarded to the City of Minneapolis for an impressive 50 consecutive years.
“These awards specifically speak to the rigor of budget documentation, and financial reports which are accessible to all residents. That’s something our community deserves and expects. You shouldn’t have to be a financial professional to understand the city’s budget,” said CFO Dye.
As the saying goes... better late than never! Mayor Frey is officially on Bluesky. Follow him at @mayorjacobfrey to stay up to date on all things Minneapolis.
