My heart is with the Hortman and Hoffman families during this deeply painful time.
Speaker Hortman was not only a dear friend, but a fierce, compassionate leader who dedicated her life to uplifting Minnesotans. Her loss is immeasurable for our state, our Capitol, and everyone who had the honor of working alongside her.
I’m holding Senator Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, in my prayers as they face an unimaginable tragedy. Political violence has no place in our society ever. We must condemn it loudly, clearly, and together.
I’m grateful to our law enforcement partners for their swift action in pursuing justice. But today, we mourn. And in the days ahead, we must also reflect on what it means to build a world where public service is respected, not targeted and where love, not fear, leads the way.
