Woman Killed, Six Others Injured in Boom Island Park Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS – Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced today that a woman has died, and six other adults were injured following a shooting at Boom Island Park on the evening of Sunday, June 1, 2025.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., officers from the Second Precinct and Minneapolis Park Police responded to reports of a shooting near Boom Island Park. Upon arrival, officers located a woman near 11th Ave NE and Sibley St NE suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. She was transported by EMS to Hennepin Healthcare, where she later died.

Six additional victims were injured:

  • Two men were transported by EMS to Hennepin Healthcare with gunshot wounds.
  • One man was transported by EMS to North Memorial Medical Center with a gunshot wound.
  • Two men arrived at area hospitals on their own—one at Hennepin Healthcare and one at North Memorial —both with gunshot wounds.
  • A woman was transported by EMS to Hennepin Healthcare with minor injuries. She was not struck by gunfire.

Of the six injured, Minneapolis Police say one of the men transported to Hennepin Healthcare suffered a life-threatening injury; the remaining five sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary information indicates that a large gathering at the park escalated into gunfire. Investigators are actively working to determine what led up to the shooting and are piecing together the sequence of events.

Officers secured the area, canvassed the neighborhood for evidence, and Minneapolis Forensic Scientists responded to process the scene.

At this time, no arrests have been made.   “My thoughts are with all those who are affected by this outrageous act of violence,” said Chief O’Hara. “The level of violence displayed in this shooting is absolutely sickening, and our investigators will work diligently to bring whoever is responsible to justice. We ask anyone who may know what happened to please provide any information they may have.”

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the deceased woman’s identity, as well as the official cause and manner of death.
