May 6, 2025 (MINNEAPOLIS) — Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara says that a 14-year-old boy was fatally shot Monday night during an altercation involving a group of teenagers.
At approximately 9:00 p.m. on May 5, First Precinct officers responded to reports of a shooting on the 90 block of Hennepin Av S. Officers located a 14-year-old boy suffering from at least one life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to Hennepin Healthcare, where he later died.
Preliminary information suggests that a physical altercation among teenage boys escalated, ending when one of the teens fired a gun, fatally wounding the boy who died.
“This is a terrible tragedy,” said Chief O’Hara. “When teenagers have access to guns, conflicts can turn deadly. One young life is lost, and others are forever changed. It’s heartbreaking. The sheer number of guns in circulation—and how easily teens can access them—is unacceptable.”
MPD homicide investigators are working to establish the sequence of events leading up to the shooting and to identify any suspects.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the boy's identity, along with the official cause and manner of his death.
The GO # for this incident is 25-118574.
