Minneapolis Police Announce Arrests in a Shooting Death Outside of a Northside Apartment Building.

May 5, 2025 (MINNEAPOLIS) Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced today that arrests have been made in connection with the April 19 shooting death on Minneapolis’s Northside.

At approximately 10:17 p.m. on April 19, 4th Precinct officers responded to reports of gunfire on the 2000 block of W River Rd N. They found a man in his 20s with a fatal gunshot wound inside a vehicle that had crashed into the garage entrance of an apartment building. Evidence of gunfire was in the parking lot.

On May 2, 2025, MPD officers arrested Jayce Nasir Cuff in St. Paul. He was booked into the Hennepin County Jail and has been formally charged with Aiding and Abetting Second-Degree Murder with Intent (Not Premeditated). He remains in custody.

That same day, a 17-year-old boy was arrested in Brooklyn Center and booked into the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center. He has been formally charged with Aiding and Abetting Second-Degree Murder with Intent (Not Premeditated) and remains in custody.

Charging documents allege that both Cuff and the 17-year-old were shooters.

“This shooting occurred in the parking lot of a large, occupied apartment building,” said Chief O’Hara. “This targeted attack showed a complete disregard for the sanctity of human life. That an adult and at least one juvenile appear to be involved in this apparent hit is especially troubling. I’m grateful for the urgent response by Minneapolis Police Officers and the tireless work of our investigators in identifying and arresting those believed to be responsible. The victim’s family, the residents of the apartment building, and our entire city deserve justice.”
