2024 Annual Summary image

2024 annual summary just released!

In 2024, the Minneapolis Workforce Development Board and CPED-Employment and Training promoted career advancement for over 10,000 Minneapolis residents. Programs focused on the communities and populations with the greatest need, especially our BIPOC residents. Services connected employers to job seekers at 55 hiring fairs and networking events.

Minnesota Skills-based Hiring Accelerator workshop

Join us! The Minneapolis Workforce Development Board is hosting a half-day Minnesota Skills-based Hiring Accelerator workshop on May 21. Learn more about best practices in talent acquisition and development. From job descriptions to interviewing to training, improve your team’s ability to assess candidate knowledge and skills and build a more diverse and talented workforce.

May is Tech Month event

Join the Minneapolis Workforce Development Board for a panel presentation and networking event. We will discuss the challenges and some potential solutions to help employers upskill or reskill today's teams to meet tomorrow's workforce needs.

Minnesota records another strong month of job growth

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) issued a press release last month detailing a continued pattern of growth. In March, employers added the largest gain in a year - 10,700 jobs. We have a lower unemployment rate and a higher growth rate than the national average.

Resources for laid off workers

The Dislocated Worker program provides free, personalized services to help workers who have been laid off through no fault of their own: 

  • Career Planning and Counseling 
  • Job Search Assistance
  • Education and training support 
  • Assistance with expenses needed to help you achieve employment or training goals

Visit the City of Minneapolis' Dislocated Worker web page or contact staff at a CareerForce location near you for help preparing for and finding new employment. 

 


Apprenticeship Outreach Office

Apprenticeship is a great way to learn a new job while earning a paycheck!

Located in the north Minneapolis CareerForce at 800 W Broadway, the Apprenticeship Outreach Office provides information and guidance to job seekers. In addition to opportunities in the trades, registered apprenticeships are available across multiple industries. Join the next monthly Apprenticeship 101 workshop scheduled at the CareerForce location to learn more.

Help for employers to train workers

Do you need help training or upskilling your employees? Programs are available to help!

Talent Development Program

Businesses have a new tool help offset a portion of the costs to train their employees. The Talent Development Program is a business-driven funding assistance resource for qualifying Minnesota employers to provide skills training to full-time, permanent employees. Training could be in technical or business skills that helps the employers improve their processes and competitiveness and/or avert a layoff.
