April 24, 2025 (MINNEAPOLIS) Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced that a man shot on April 18, 2025, died today at Hennepin Healthcare Hospital.
On April 18, 2025, just past 6:30 p.m., 1st Precinct officers responded to the report of a shooting and located a man in his 20s slumped over in a vehicle with at least one life-threatening gunshot wound. Officers immediately rendered medical aid, including CPR. A heartbeat was regained, and the man was then transported to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital.
Preliminary information indicates that the gunfire occurred near 5th Avenue South and 9th Street South. The injured man is believed to have driven from that location, struck a vehicle occupied by a family, and continued another half block before coming to a stop near 3rd Avenue South and 9th Street South.
The family in the vehicle that was struck were not injured.
Evidence of gunfire was found both at the intersection of 5th Ave S and 9th St S and on the injured man’s vehicle.
Investigators are working to determine the sequence of events leading up to the shooting.
No arrests have been made.
“Any loss of life is deeply troubling,” said Chief O’Hara. “While a decline in violent crime offers some encouragement, each new act of violence—each life lost—reminds us how much work remains. Our investigators are fully committed to identifying the shooter and ensuring they are held accountable.”
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the identity of the deceased man along with the cause and manner of his death.
