Minneapolis Police Open a Homicide Investigation and Make an Arrest After Man Dies at Hospital

February 19, 2025 (MINNEAPOLIS) Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced today that the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) has made an arrest in connection with the death of a man who succumbed to injuries several days after being assaulted.

On February 15, 2023, at approximately 12:20 p.m., Officers from the 5th Precinct responded to the 2500 block of Lyndale Ave S on reports of a man lying on the ground, bleeding from his head.  Officers located an unconscious adult man outside of a business. The injured man was transported to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital.

Preliminary information indicates that the injured man was assaulted by a man who then fled the scene in a vehicle.

On the morning of February 18, 2025, the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) was notified that the man injured in the assault had passed away overnight at Hennepin Healthcare Hospital.

MPD homicide investigators worked with urgency and diligence to track the suspect to an address on the 2800 block of Knox Ave S. On February 19, 2025, MPD officers and SWAT executed a high-risk warrant, apprehending the 42-year-old suspect without incident at approximately 6:15 p.m. The suspect has since been booked into the Hennepin County Jail.

"This is yet another instance of a violent individual showing complete disregard for human life," said Chief O’Hara. "The suspect allegedly threatened and brutally assaulted the victim in broad daylight, in full view of the public. This kind of violence will not be tolerated.  I am proud of the dedicated and effective efforts of our investigators who continue to excel in their work."

The GO# for this incident is 25-038319
