February 7, 2025 (MINNEAPOLIS) – Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said today that officers arrested a gunman without incident after the man threatened a resident with a firearm and barricaded himself in his apartment for more than 90 minutes.
The incident began shortly before 2 a.m. on the 1400 block of 11th Avenue S.
Responding officers quickly secured the scene, and, after reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses, confirmed that the suspect had pointed a gun at another resident.
Prioritizing the safety of all involved, officers evacuated residents and deployed crisis negotiators, ballistic shields, specialty cameras, drones, and standby emergency medical services. Officers also applied for a search warrant and used de-escalation tactics throughout the incident, communicating with the suspect in both English and his native tongue.
More than an hour and a half after the initial 911 call, the suspect came out of his apartment and was taken into custody peacefully. Upon executing the search warrant, officers recovered a replica handgun.
“This incident created significant fear among residents in the building,” said Chief O’Hara. “Our officers acted with skill and composure, developing a strategic plan, utilizing critical resources, and exercising patience to ensure a safe resolution. Their dedication makes a real difference in our community.”
No injuries were reported during the operation.
The suspect was booked into Hennepin County Jail on charges related to threatening another person with a firearm and for an active felony warrant.
The Go# for this incident is 25-031304.
