November 17, 2024 (MINNEAPOLIS) Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said a shooting at Tantrum Nightclub led to a violent, chaotic scene. This is the second shooting inside of a Downtown nightclub in the last three weeks. O’Hara said he was patrolling in the Uptown area last night when he heard officers working the downtown Late Night Safety Plan call over the radio that they heard the sound of shots fired from inside the Tantrum Night Club.
At approximately 1:47 AM, officers working in the First Precinct as part of the Late Night Safety Plan were responding to the 100 block of 4th St N after reports of a person with a gun when they heard gunfire coming from Tantrum Nightclub. Officers immediately ran toward the gunfire and located one man who had been shot. The man was transported by EMS to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital with an apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Officers heard additional gunfire from the surface lot next to Tantrum. Again, officers ran toward the gunfire and found a vehicle driving recklessly through the parking lot. After stopping the vehicle, officers arrested one man and recovered a firearm. While talking with this man, officers again heard the sound of shots being fired.
Officers were notified a vehicle had arrived at Hennepin Healthcare Hospital and dropped off a man with an apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wound. A second juvenile male also arrived at Hennepin Healthcare Hospital with an apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Preliminary information indicates there was a physical altercation inside Tantrum when the initial shots were fired inside. As patrons were running outside from Tantrum, additional shots were fired in the surface lot.
“Responding urgently to chaotic incidents like latest shooting inside Tantrum nightclub and the shooting at Vanquish nightclub two weeks ago requires a large and immediate police response,” O’Hara said. “This shows why we need sufficient numbers of officers available at bar close in Downtown, Dinkytown, and Uptown—without depleting the cops patrolling our neighborhoods. Thanks to the bravery and professionalism of our cops, a man was arrested after discharging a firearm, and a bad situation was interrupted before it got even worse.”
Officers secured the scene, canvassed the area, and collected evidence.
Investigators are working to determine the sequence of events including how the arrested man was involved.
The GO# for this incident is 24-330208.
