Dear neighbor,
I just wanted to send you all an update regarding yesterday’s presidential election. Like many of our neighbors, I’m deeply concerned about what this means for our neighbors and family members in Ward 9, Minneapolis and the United States.
As your City Council member, I am committed to working alongside our community in protecting our community via our policymaking authority and as the first line of defense for human rights and social justice. I’m committed to doubling down on building a city where our most vulnerable community members' needs are met, addressed, and heard.
As I came back to work this morning, I began to think about the work ahead that is desperately needed. Transformational work that the City Council needs to undertake to protect our immigrant and refugee communities, LGBTQIA+ residents, and our Black, Native, and communities of color.
Along with ways the City must step up to protect bodily autonomy, unhoused residents, democracy, our planet, and our community. I hope you all can join me in hugging your family or friends and telling them you love them.
I write this email with fear for my own family members and our uncertain future. This is too common in our community right now. But in these moments of despair, I find time for hope because I know that Ward 9 neighbors are resilient, dedicated, and have each other’s back.
Let’s unite as a city in ways we can address the challenges ahead of us. I’m in this fight with all of you and will make sure that our municipal government is the first line of defense we need.
Happy to talk with any of you on ways our local government can help in this moment.
Sincerely,
Jason Chavez |
