November 5, 2024 (MINNEAPOLIS) Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara sadly announced Tuesday that a 13-year-old boy was shot dead by a 14-year-old boy.
Officers from the 4th Precinct responded to the report of a shooting where they located the 13-year-old boy inside a residence. The boy was apparently shot once. Despite lifesaving efforts by officers, the boy died at the scene.
The shooting occurred on the 2400 block of Ferrant Place at approximately 1:30 a.m. and preliminary information indicates that a 14-year-old boy was handling a gun when the 13-year-old boy was shot. There were two adult women and other juveniles in the home at the time of the shooting. No one else was injured. MPD is familiar with both of the boys. The 14-year-old boy was on the scene when officers arrived.
MPD is working to determine the sequence of events that led up to the shooting.
The 14-year-old boy was booked into the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center for the shooting.
“The death of a child is always incredibly troubling and tragic,” said Chief O’Hara. Our investigators will work diligently to answer the many questions we have. In addition to supporting the families that are impacted by this tragedy, everyone must make every effort to ensure that every gun is securely stored.”
