CPED staff presented proposed zoning code updates for cannabis businesses to the Planning Commission at a public hearing on September 30, 2024. The code update will regulate when, where, and how cannabis businesses can operate. These proposed rules aim to foster a thriving cannabis industry while ensuring the safety and health of residents. View the staff report provided to the Planning Commission.
At the meeting, members of the public provided feedback on the proposed regulations. Planning Commissioners, after consideration, recommended the draft move forward for City Council review, with two proposed changes:
- Reduce the required distance between a school and a cannabis dispensary from 500 feet to 300 feet.
- Decrease required minimum size of a commercial or industrial area where a dispensary could be located from 5 acres to 3 acres.
