October 10, 2024 (MINNEAPOLIS) Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said MPD investigators believe the dealing of illegal narcotics may have played a role in a homicide that occurred on Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 4:18 p.m., officers from the 4th Precinct responded to a shooting on the 4200 Block of Penn Ave N. They located a man with fatal gunshot wounds in an alley between Penn Ave N and Queen Ave N. Officers provided immediate medical aid. Despite all lifesaving efforts, the man died at the scene.
Preliminary information indicates that an interaction near the street escalated to gunfire. Two men ran from the scene. The man with the fatal gunshot wounds ran west into the alley where he collapsed.
MPD Forensic Scientists processed the scene and collected evidence. Homicide investigators are working to determine the sequence of events that led to the shooting.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the name of the deceased along with the cause and manner of death.
There have been no arrests.
“Gunfire in the middle of a neighborhood in the middle of the afternoon is frustrating and unacceptable, “said Chief O’Hara. “This senseless violence is tragic and unfortunate, but I am confident our investigators will work hard to determine what happened and arrest those responsible.”
The GO# for this incident is 24-292253.
