September 21, 2024 (MINNEAPOLIS) Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced Saturday that a shooting left three injured and two dead. At approximately 1:56 am, Officers working the Late-Night Safety Plan were responding to a fight in the area of 5th St/Hennepin Ave. As they were breaking up the fight, they heard shots being fired. Officers ran toward the gunfire and located a total of five individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. They provided immediate lifesaving medical aid. All five were transported by EMS to area hospitals. Two adult males died at the hospital. Two juvenile females and one adult female had apparent non-life-threatening injuries.
One man was arrested. Investigators are continuing to gather information about the incident and the man’s involvement.
Officers secured the scene and canvassed the area. MPD Forensic Scientists responded to process the scene. A firearm was recovered from the scene.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the deceased men’s names along with the cause and manner of death.
“MPD investigators will work tirelessly to bring whoever is responsible for this tragic incident to justice,” Chief O’Hara said. “We will continue with our late-night safety plan, and work with our law enforcement and community-based partners to enhance the level of safety for all.”
