Police Arrest One Person in an Ongoing Investigation into an Attack at a Shelter

September 12, 2024 (MINNEAPOLIS) Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced that police have arrested a 33-year-old woman for her involvement in threatening residents of a shelter and causing damage to the building and a vehicle.

MPD investigators sent their findings today to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office seeking charges of felony property damage and riot.

This incident occurred the night of September 5th, 2024, on the 2600 block of Russell Ave N.  A verbal argument between residents of a shelter for women and children and individuals from a residence on the same block escalated to physical violence.  During the altercation, the shelter and a vehicle belonging to a resident of the shelter were damaged.

O’Hara said the investigation began immediately with the police response on September 5th and has been ongoing since that time. Investigators have been gathering and reviewing surveillance video, interviewing witnesses, and trying to track down victims and suspects.

“This incident was disturbing and involved multiple levels of potential crime which has made this ongoing investigation labor intensive,” said O’Hara “I am thankful to the investigators who have worked diligently to achieve these results today. I am confident this investigation will continue to its logical conclusion, and so, further arrests may still occur.

The GO number is 24-253915.
