Dear Neighbor

From left to right: CM Palmisano helps present Director David Herberholz with an Honorary Resolution, neighbors enjoy live music by Brenna Larson at a block party at 4600 Colfax

Dear Neighbor,

I’ve enjoyed being out at your events these past couple of weeks. Council Member Jamal Osman and I had an opportunity to address a crowd at Som-Fest, celebrating Somali culture and young people at the Lake Harriet Bandshell. Many of you remember Sgt. Grant Snyder, still a big part of the community who I found at Battle of the Badges. He is an inspiration and frames my disposition for my continued focus to fight sex trafficking at the local level. And Brenna Larson was one of many local singers at the 4600 Colfax block party, amongst seeing you at so many others, including a celebration of 50 years of a block party at 4700 Aldrich. Love thy neighbor!

At this week's Council meeting I got to present an Honorary Resolution to David Herberholz, the Director of Solid Waste & Recycling, as he retires next month. In addition to ensuring the highest quality of collection services for well over 100,000 customers and our parks, he spearheaded a number of environmentally positive policies and projects, including the Zero Waste Plan, the transition from multi-sort to single-sort recycling, the citywide organics program, collection from residential parks, and more. I feel fortunate to work with him and wish him all the best in his next chapter. I appreciated comments from my colleagues about how newcomers notice how clean our city is, and that is not by accident but by the hard work of dedicated public servants like our Solid Waste team and partners, who do very honorable work.

And if you're looking for a little laugh, check out this viral video from the City's Organics TikTok page!

Yours in service,

September 15 - Last Chance to Comment on Proposed FAA Flight Operation Procedures (RNAV)

After Minneapolis and surrounding communities were successful in delaying the implementation of new performance-based navigation techniques (RNAV) in 2012, the FAA is proceeding with implementation of these operations now. Ground-based systems have been decommissioned and the FAA is clear that these new procedures are coming to MSP within the next couple of years.

As a City, we have been at the table throughout this process advocating for the prevention and management of negative impacts from the airport to our communities. We have provided feedback to the FAA directly confirming our common goal that flight pathways above MSP are dispersed as much as possible and mimic what they are today. We have also communicated the needs to prevent concentration of noise and to avoid shifting noise. The ultimate goal is to disperse noise and flight operations.

Just as the City provided feedback to the FAA, I encourage each of you to provide your own feedback by September 15. My hope is that we take every opportunity to communicate our appreciation of their consideration to spread out flight operations and noise whenever possible.

Meet with Council Member Palmisano

One of the best parts of my job is getting to meet with my constituents, learn more about you and hear your questions, concerns, hopes and dreams for our shared community.

If you'd like to schedule a time to meet with me, send me an e-mail and my staff will help get it scheduled. Please let me know what you'd like to talk about and a convenient place to meet—a coffee shop, a park, your home, my office, etc. I try to reserve Fridays for constituent meetings, but can work them in other times, as necessary, too.
