September 2, 2024 (MINNEAPOLIS) Chief Brian O’Hara says that at approximately 5:30 pm, Fourth Precinct officers responded to a hit and run crash in the 2400 block of Washington Ave S. Officers arrived and found a man with apparent life-threatening injuries. Officers provided medical aid until EMS arrived. The man was declared deceased on scene.
Preliminary information indicates that the man was riding a motorized minibike westbound on 24th Ave N. He attempted to turn onto Washington Ave N when witnesses say a vehicle travelling northbound on Washington Ave N at a high rate of speed struck the motorized minibike. The driver of the striking vehicle ran from the scene on foot before officers arrived. The driver was located nearby and arrested.
Officers secured the scene and canvassed the area.
MPD Investigators responded to the scene. They are working to determine the circumstances around the crash including whether drug or alcohol intoxication was a factor.
The GO number is 24-250472.
The driver of the striking vehicle was booked into Hennepin County Jail for Criminal Vehicular Homicide.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the deceased man’s name along with the cause and manner of death.
