We tend to see an uptick in crime during the warmer months. This past weekend, after a car crash involving a stolen vehicle that originated in Edina, we utilized a coordinated assist to apprehend carjacking suspects. You may have heard the helicopter in the area.
Everyone who was impacted by the incident rallied to help find the suspects, especially a child who was the first to notice the two suspects hiding in the weeds next door. Reporting and working with the police really helped to apprehend suspects.
There are many ways you can play a role in protecting yourself and preventing crime:
-
Immediately call 911 if you observe suspicious activity and/ or crime and provide a thorough description of the involved individuals, vehicles, etc.
-
File a police report if you are a victim of crime to ensure the data is publicly available and included in the Crime Locations Map and Dashboard.
-
Always lock your home, garage, and car.
- Remain aware of your surrounding while in a parked car and lock the doors if you are idling.
-
Avoid appearing distracted, wearing earbuds, or talking on the phone.
- Review MPD's Crime Prevention and Safety Tips
