Minneapolis Police are investigating the homicide of a teenager.

July 8, 2024 (Minneapolis) On July 7th, at approximately 7:50 p.m., officers from the 5th Precinct responded to the report of a shooting at 27th St E and Nicollet Ave. When officers arrived, they were informed that a person injured by gunfire had been taken to a residence on the 2600 block of 3rd Ave S.  At that residence, officers identified an 18-year-old male with life-threatening gunshot wounds.  Officers provided medical aid until the injured teen was transported by ambulance to Hennepin Health. Despite all lifesaving efforts, the teen later died at the hospital.

Preliminary information indicates that a verbal altercation escalated to gunfire.

Officers secured the shooting scene and the residence on 3rd Av S.  MPD Forensic Scientists processed the scenes and collected evidence.

MPD is investigating to determine the sequence of events that led up to the shooting. 

There have been no arrests.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the name of the teen along with the cause and manner of his death.
