The Cities of Minneapolis and Columbia Heights are in the process of reconstructing 37th Ave NE between Central Ave and Stinson Blvd, and 37th Pl NE between 37th Ave NE and Stinson Blvd.
The project includes complete replacement of the street infrastructure including curb and gutter, roadway pavement, driveway aprons and sidewalk. New medians will be installed at key intersections to provide better access to a new shared-use trail on the north side of 37th Ave NE. This project also features wide boulevards on both the north and south side of the street. Boulevards will feature green storm water infrastructure to help capture and treat surface water runoff before it is collected in the storm sewer system.
The remaining portion of the 37th Ave NE reconstruction project has begun on Monday, April 15, 2024 between Central Ave NE and Johnson St NE.
ACTIVITES IN THIS WEEK
- Existing sidewalk removal between Central Ave and Johnson St NE (the south side of 37th Ave).
- Green Storm Infrastructure (GSI) in the boulevard area.
ACTIVITIES FOR THE UPCOMING WEEK:
- CP Railroad company will do some flat work for the sidewalk gap by the railroad crossing,
- Sidewalk grading and preparation between Central and Johnson on the south side of 37th Ave.
- Some miscellaneous work - Project wide
TRAFFIC IMPACT
It will stay the same as it was last week.

Central intersection -
- The northbound traffic has no right turn access at 37th intersection
- The south bound traffic has no left tern at the intersection.
- Eastbound closed for through traffic. Due to the construction work, the lane restriction will continue.
- The eastbound general traffic detour: Central ↔ 40th Ave NE ↔Stinson Blvd.

Between Central Ave and Johnson St
- The westbound lane is open to traffic
- The eastbound of 37th closed and will remain closed due to activities in the stretch. However, It's accessible for local traffic.
- All side streets are open to traffic.
- Alleys on the south side of 37th temporary will be closed for the removal process.
