April 8, 2024 (Minneapolis): Minneapolis Chief of Police Brian O’Hara said tonight that Third-Precinct officers responded to multiple ShotSpotter notifications near the intersection of Portland Ave. E 29th St. shortly before 4 p.m.
When they arrived, officers found a 24-year-old man in the yard on E 29th St. between Portland Ave. and 5th Ave. S. The man was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers performed life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
One handgun with an extended magazine was recovered at the scene.
Investigators are working to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.
“It’s extremely difficult as police officers to see the results of this violence day in and day out, to see young people who have been killed on the street,” said O’Hara. “These are tragedies that must stop.”
There have been no arrests. The GO number is 24-091113.
Forensic scientists from the Minneapolis Police Forensic Division responded to process the scene and collect evidence. Homicide detectives responded to begin an investigation. There have been no arrests.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the deceased man’s name and the cause and manner of his death.
