Police investigating fatal shooting.

April 5, 2024 (Minneapolis): Third-Precinct officers were flagged down by motorists at the intersection of Longfellow Ave. and E 26th St. at 8:50 p.m. The occupants notified officers that another passenger was suffering from a gunshot wound. Inside the vehicle, officers located an 18-year-old man suffering from an apparent life-threatening gunshot wound. First responders performed life-saving maneuvers, but the man was declared dead by medical personnel at the scene.

It appears the man was being driven to the hospital when the vehicle’s occupants flagged down police.

Preliminary reports indicate the shooting happened on the 1700 block of Glenwood Ave. Shotspotter alerted that rounds were fired, and responding officers found evidence of a shooting at that location.

Investigators are working to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.

There have been no arrests. The GO number is 24-088349.

Forensic scientists from the Minneapolis Police Forensic Division responded to process the scene and collect evidence. Homicide detectives responded to begin an investigation.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the man’s name and the cause and manner of his death.
