February 28, 2024 (Minneapolis): Minneapolis police arrested Jaden Trejuan Butcher, 18, on Tuesday in connection to an August 20, 2023, shooting on the 800 block of Franklin Ave. E that injured nine people.
The injured, all with gunshot wounds, included:
- Six male juveniles, a 15 year old, three 16 year olds and two 17 year olds
- A woman, age 55
- Two men, ages 18 and 48
Two of the 16 year olds, the 17 year olds and the 18 year old suffered life-threatening gunshot wounds. The rest suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
According to the criminal complaint, at approximately 6 p.m. on August 20, 2023, two men parked a vehicle in front of a business and opened fire on a large crowd of people. Investigators found 42 bullet casings at the scene, including 35 from an automatic assault-style rifle.
“I am incredibly thankful for the outstanding investigators of the Minneapolis Police Department who worked tirelessly to build a case against Jaden Trejuan Butcher and did everything in their power to make sure he can be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” said Minneapolis Chief of Police Brian O’Hara.
“Gun violence is tearing apart our families and our neighborhoods. I can assure you that the Minneapolis Police Department will continue to answer the call with urgency on behalf of all victims. We will not tolerate these horrendous acts of senseless violence on our streets,” O’Hara said.
Butcher was taken into custody after being released from the Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was treated for an injury that occurred in a Monday-night shooting on the 1300 block of W Lake St.
Butcher has not been charged in the Monday-night shooting.
