Statement from Minneapolis Chief of Police Brian O'Hara regarding the tragedy in Burnsville

February 18, 2024

This has been a tragic and heartbreaking day. I want to extend my deepest condolences to the loved ones of the police officers and paramedic who were killed, and to the families of every Burnsville first responder.

The two officers and the paramedic paid the ultimate sacrifice, and their deaths underscore the very real dangers first responders encounter everyday they put on a uniform, every time they respond to a call.

On a day like today, I ask that we remember that our first responders are the real heroes among us. They are mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, and husbands and wives. I can only hope and pray the heroic sacrifice made by those in Burnsville today will always be remembered, honored and appreciated, because, sadly and tragically, these heroes won’t be coming home to their families tonight.

Brian O’Hara,
