MPD Officers Arrest Two Suspects Soon After an Armed Robbery: Chief O’Hara Enacts Robbery Pattern Protocol to Address Rash of Robberies in City

February 14, 2024 (Minneapolis): At approximately 9:30 pm on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, Minneapolis Police Officers responded to the report of a robbery at gunpoint in the 4100 block of Aldrich Ave N.  An officer in the area quickly located the vehicle near Camden Av N and 46 Av N.  Before the officer could initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle, the vehicle stopped and three of the four occupants fled on foot.  Officers arrested a juvenile male who was inside the vehicle and a second juvenile male who had run from the vehicle.  Officers arrested an adult male who was later released.  Two of the males who ran from the vehicle were not located.  Officers recovered two handguns.

Both arrested 17-year-old juvenile males were booked for aggravated robbery and felony weapons.  Both arrested juvenile males had multiple warrants.  No injuries were reported in this incident. The Go number for this incident is 2024-038686

MPD is investigating and will evaluate if the juveniles arrested are connected to any other robberies.

In light of the robbery patterns that occurred over the first weekend of February, Chief Brian O’Hara enacted a Robbery Pattern Response Protocol on February 13, 2023.  When multiple robberies occur in a short period, the police chief shall personally be notified, police resources will be diverted from lower priority calls, and police will temporarily suspend response to non-emergency calls.  Available police resources will be directed to flood the area of concern, search for the suspects, and maintain high visibility until the problem is abated.  On-duty leadership will manage response resources to address both the robberies taking place and priority 911 calls.

“Our officers’ commitment to the safety of Minneapolis residents is the number one priority,” Chief O’Hara said.  “We are doubling down on our efforts to apprehend any and everyone responsible for this recent spike in robberies, and every member of this department, including me, is expected to work double duty until this problem is abated.”
