Record Number of Job Vacancies Top 205,000 in Q2 2021
Vacancies are up 84% from same quarter last year; up 40% from previous record in 2019
Jobs in Minnesota soared to a record high in the second quarter of 2021 as demand for workers greatly outpaced hiring. As the state’s economy continues to recover from the pandemic recession, employers in Minnesota reported more than 205,000 vacancies according to figures released today by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).

November 15-21 is National Apprenticeship Week |
Apprenticeship Week in Minnesota is an opportunity for the apprenticeship community to tell their stories about registered apprenticeship and share with businesses, industry, labor, education, career-seekers, community-based organizations, students and workers the advantages of developing careers through adoption of the apprenticeship model.
Throughout the week the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry will host and share information about events and feature apprentices, community-based organizations and apprenticeship program sponsors.

Dislocated Worker Services - Support with Finding What's Next
If you’ve lost employment or are out of work, we can help you find what’s next. Dislocated Worker services are available to individuals who have lost their job through no fault of their own, including impacts due to the COVID-19 pandemic. An employment counselor will help with job search services, career counseling and training opportunities so you can step back into the workforce with confidence.
Services include, but are not limited to:
- Career Counseling
- Resume writing assistance including creating online resumes
- Skills assessment and training to enhance skills
- Free workshops designed to help jobseekers with all aspects of the job search. Workshops may cover topics such as:
- Computer Skills
- Networking
- Self-Marketing
- Accessing Certifications/Training
- Career Transition/Skills Transition
All services are free and tailored to fit individual needs.
