October is Manufacturing Month!

Now is the time to make sure local employers, educators, students, job seekers and community leaders are engaged for Manufacturing Month in October!

Did you know that 2,300 new manufacturing jobs were added in Minnesota in August? That job growth is another promising sign in an industry with many employment opportunities. Minnesota manufacturers could likely continue adding new jobs for some time - if there were enough workers to fill them.

Manufacturing Month is a time to raise awareness about all the great employment opportunities in this critically important industry.

Jewish Family and Children's Service of Minneapolis

JFCS has been a partner of Minneapolis Employment and Training since 2006, providing a variety of employment services to Minneapolis residents, including those who were displaced from the workforce by the COVID pandemic. A highlight of the work of JFCS is working with job seekers who are interested in a career in tech. Experienced job counselors assist participants in selecting and training for tech careers with MSP TechHire, which provides scholarships that enable participants to obtain highly marketable credentials as network administrators, full-stack software engineers and UX designers.

Since January 2021, JFCS supported 79 low-income Minneapolis job seekers in this pathway, with 52 participants completing training, 33 of whom are now employed in the tech sector. In addition to helping participants find and select the right tech training, JFCS counselors assist with job search upon graduation, provide support while training, and have the ability to help participants who may experience financial challenges or emergencies while in training.
