City of Lakes

Dear Neighbor,

This week we’ve been having a lot of discussion regarding state and federal funding coming to Minneapolis. As the population of Minneapolis is just under 500k people, we miss an important requirement at the federal level for current funds available directly to the city. This means we have to apply through the state to see any of that money, but continue to lobby for these additional resources at the federal level as well. We are working to tighten up the spending at City Hall in many ways, particularly as it has to do with staffing resources. Governor Walz’s team has been tireless in developing a comprehensive plan that is fact-based, to protect the health of our state and communities. I greatly appreciate that and work to be a good partner at the city level.

Below is some information we felt both relevant and pertinent, and in terms of keeping our community closely knit together, the constituent I’ve chosen to highlight this week is Linden Hills resident and local Master Arborist Russell Kennedy, for Arbor Day.  It is a pretty special part of our “city by nature” to have so many trees to keep us healthy and our environment green. While I met Russell by way of my concern over a tree in our yard, I learned that he is behind the local group that works to get people thinking about watering trees in our public spaces. The local scientists and people dedicated to our urban forest here in Minnesota are amazing, through the university system and beyond. Our ever-evolving urban forest is something that fills me with gratitude this week, and I hope you have an opportunity to enjoy some time outside yourself this weekend.

Yours in Service,

Linea
